University of Kashmir – Excellence in Education, Research, and Innovation

Established in 1948, the University of Jammu and Kashmir underwent a bifurcation in 1969, resulting in the formation of two separate institutions: the University of Kashmir in Srinagar and the University of Jammu in Jammu. Nestled in the picturesque locale of Hazratbal, the University of Kashmir boasts a sprawling 247-acre campus, bordered by the iconic Dal Lake to the east and Nigeen Lake to the west. This main campus encompasses the Hazratbal Campus, Naseem Bagh Campus, and Mirza Bagh Campus, the latter serving as residential quarters. With additional land acquired in Zakura, the university is poised for further expansion, offering a tranquil setting that fosters academic excellence and research innovation.

Over the decades, the University of Kashmir has significantly broadened its reach by establishing satellite campuses in Anantnag (South Campus), Baramulla (North Campus), and Kupwara, thereby enhancing access to higher education across the Kashmir valley. A sub-office in Jammu further caters to the needs of students residing outside the valley. The university is steadfast in its mission to cultivate an intellectually enriching environment that contributes to the educational, economic, scientific, business, and cultural development of the region.

The University offers a comprehensive array of programs across various faculties, including:

  • Arts
  • Business & Management Studies

  • Law
  • Applied Sciences & Technology
  • Biological Sciences
  • Physical & Material Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Medicine
  • Dentistry

Continuously aligning with societal needs and student aspirations, the university introduces innovative programs to stay at the forefront of educational excellence. Its unwavering commitment to quality has been recognized by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India, which re-accredited the University of Kashmir as a Grade-A+ institution, underscoring its high standards in teaching and research.
